How to Lower Your Car Insurance Premiums – Kelley Blue Book

Many factors, large and small, help auto insurance companies determine how much they charge for policies, beginning with the types of vehicles being insured. It should come as no surprise that insurers charge more to cover newer and more expensive vehicles because they obviously will be more expensive to repair or replace. Also, higher-performance vehicles typically tend to rate higher premiums, probably because their drivers (perhaps unjustly) are presumed to be higher accident risks.

He received a knock on the door from police at about 4.30am after they were alerted to his car alarm going off.

Drivers who don’t wear their specs are four times more likely to crash | This is Money

If you’re supposed to wear glasses or contact lenses but choose not to when you’re driving you’re four times as likely to have a shunt, Direct Line has found.

Based on a study of 2,003 motorists, the insurer discovered that 16 per cent of all drivers have had an accident in the last two years, but this figure sky-rockets to 67 per cent for those who opt not to wear their spectacles.

And the problem could be even greater, the report said. That’s because more than a third of licence holders surveyed said they’ve not had their vision tested for 24 months or longer.

Parking rage: why so many people lose their cool

In December 2014, one of my colleagues was murdered in an argument over a parking space . Alison Morrison was a 45-year-old mother who worked at Which? in London. Her neighbour, Trevor Gibbon, stabbed her 33 times on her way to work after an ongoing dispute about their shared driveway. She bled to death on the pavement, leaving behind a heartbroken teenage son and – just behind mine – a poignantly empty desk.

Son did not remember drunkenly stealing father’s car (From Falmouth Packet)

The owner of a red Astra was puzzled when his car was not at home where he had left it but the key was in its usual place in the house.

When he asked his son about it, the 23-year-old had nothing to say, and was not terribly interested.

The father called the police and reported the Astra missing.

The car was then found at Helston, and police inquiries revealed that the previous night it had hit a wall, and that the driver who was seen with it resembled his son.

When Luke Jeremy James, of Pendeen Park, Helston, was questioned by officers, he at first said he could not remember anything about it because he was drunk. But then he added: “I have a horrible feeling that I might have taken it.”

Money digest: today’s need-to-know financial news | Coffee House

A rush by landlords and second home buyers to beat the deadline for a new three per cent stamp duty surcharge on additional properties saw mortgage lending in March soar 59 per cent higher than a year ago.

The Council of Mortgage Lenders said it had seen the biggest stamp duty distortion of the property market ever, as buy-to-let purchasers flooded the market. A total of £25.7 billion was taken out by borrowers last month – 43 per cent more than February when lending totalled £18 billion.

How This Woman and Her Friends Turned Heartache Into Helpfulness

It was love at first sight, as Jen Hidinger always tells it. Her husband, Ryan, would joke that it took him a bit longer. “Well, for me, it was love at first sight,” Jen says. They met at a grocery store in the Indianapolis suburbs. She was 17 and worked the cash register. He was 22 and a line cook at a catering company nearby. He kept coming into her store, giving her a shy wave and buying Bubblicious gum. He bought a lot of Bubblicious.
